When you need fuel drainage
- → Wrong fuel — petrol in diesel, diesel in petrol, AdBlue in diesel
- → Contaminated fuel — water, dirt, debris from a bad batch at the servo
- → Stale fuel — vehicle sat for months and the fuel has gone off
- → Wrong fuel in a generator, mower, ride-on, jet ski, or boat
- → Fleet vehicles with bulk contamination from a dodgy tank refill
How the drain works
- 1
Drain the tank.
We pull 100% of the contaminated fuel out using professional drainage equipment — far more than a basic siphon can manage with modern anti-siphon valves.
- 2
Flush the lines.
Contaminated fuel doesn't sit only in the tank. It coats the fuel lines, the pump, and the injectors. We flush back to clean fuel through the whole system.
- 3
Replace the filter if needed.
If contamination has been through the system, the fuel filter needs replacing. We carry common filters on the truck.
- 4
Refuel with the correct fuel.
We add fresh diesel or petrol on-site, start the engine, and test that it's running normally before you drive off.
Questions about fuel drainage
What is mobile fuel drainage? +
It is exactly what it sounds like — we bring the equipment to wherever your car is, drain the contaminated or wrong fuel from the tank, flush the fuel lines, and refuel you with the correct fuel. No tow, no garage, no waiting. Most jobs on-site in 45-90 minutes.
When do I need fuel drainage rather than a top-up? +
Drainage is for any situation where the fuel in your tank is wrong, contaminated, or unfit for the engine. Wrong fuel (petrol in diesel or diesel in petrol), water in the tank, dirty fuel from a bad batch at the servo, fuel that has been sitting in the tank too long, or stale fuel in a vehicle that has not run for months.
Can I drain my own tank? +
You can siphon a little out the filler neck, but modern cars have anti-siphon valves that prevent meaningful drainage. You also cannot flush the fuel lines or replace the filter from the outside. Professional drainage gets all the contaminated fuel out plus the lines clean.
How much does mobile fuel drainage cost in Perth? +
Most drainage jobs are between $150 and $350. The exact figure depends on the vehicle size, the fuel volume, and your suburb. Ben confirms the price before we start. $$ is the typical range.
How long does the drainage take? +
Most jobs take 45 to 90 minutes once Ben arrives. Smaller cars are quicker. Utes and 4WDs with larger tanks take longer. The total time from your call to driving away is usually under 2 hours in the Perth metro area.
What happens to the drained fuel? +
We carry it away in sealed containers and dispose of it through an EPA-registered waste-fuel facility. It does not go back into anyone's tank, and it does not end up down the drain.
